Limatik Defined

What exactly is Limatik? When I say Limatik, there are two things that come to mind. First is the cool website that you’re reading this article from and the other meaning (the more factual one) of the word is a parasitic mountain leech and not another term for a politician in the Philippines. These blood sucking buggers would range from 1cm-3cm in length and vary in color from the common plain black and brown to banded and striped ones.
Limatik is a parasitic mountain leech that lives in humid environments such as rainforests and wet trails. Famous hiking trails that are infested with limatik are Mt. Halcon and Mt. Makiling. This crafty bugger often hangs out on rocks, leaves, mud or on trees waiting for the unweary mountaineer to sit down so that it can have a hemo-feast (hemo means blood, homo on the other hand is somehting else). Although a limatik bite is not lethal and there are no recorded cases of fatality yet, it will cause the open wound to continually bleed once the limatik is removed hence you will become a bloody mountaineer.
There are several ways to remove a limatik:
1. Pulling the limatik directly off you is not advisable because it will cause the limatik to regurgitate some of the blood it ingested back into you which may cause you to have leech related super powers (Super Sucker!)
2. Applying alcohol based liquids or flame is advisable although it might again cause the limatik to regurgitate the ingested blood. This method is highly advisable because if you use alcohol based liquids, you can have the pesky leech drunk before he knows it and if you use flame from a cigarette, it dies from lung cancer.
3. Wait until it’s full and it’ll just fall off. You might feel a bit anemic and light (because you’ve lost a few pounds) but this is highly recommended for our horizontally challenged friends.
There is a really good potential application for the limatik’s blood sucking abilities in the medical field. This might lessen the tantrums and mood swings of people who bleed at a certain time every month. I would like to forward this to Myth Busters so that we can finally learn if this will work. If this does work, putting up a limatik farm might be a good idea since every guy will have potential use for it.
