Toy Wisdom: Magic: the Gathering [Type 2 edition]

Posted on November 10th, 2009 by chwisrock

Sometimes we find words of wisdom in the most unusual places. Bumper stickers, tv ads, billboards, even food labels oftentimes contain amazing strings of thought. What’s surprising is the abundance of these inspiring quotes from unexpected sources. Case in point: Magic: The Gathering. If you have no idea what it is, it’s a card game developed by a Math professor way back in ‘93. Others may know the game from walking in the mall, where hordes of young men can be seen clutching black binders, turning cards sideways, and knocking on the table. If you still don’t know what the heck I’m talking about, click here.

What sets Magic: The Gathering apart is it’s magnificent graphic art. Distinguished artists lend their talents to give the cards life (or sometimes, in the game’s perspective, even death). The flavor texts on the cards are also amusing. These are the italicized words that doesn’t have anything to do in terms of gameplay. It’s in these 2.5 x 3.5 in rectangle pieces of paper where a lot of hidden wisdom can be found.
