Journalist’s Code of Ethics

Posted on November 30th, 2009 by burgerboy

As dictated by the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines, there is a Code Of Ethics that every Journalist must follow. This is to ensure that journalists do not abuse the power they hold to influence people with their reports.

Here’s the Code of Ethics that must be followed:

I shall scrupulously report and interpret the news, taking care not to suppress essential facts or to distort the truth by omission or improper emphasis. I recognize the duty to air the other side and the duty to correct substantive errors promptly.

Journalists must be accurate in what they report and must ensure that all the important information are included in the report. This is to make sure that the messages conveyed in their reports are factual, true and accurate.

Botched Homecoming

Posted on November 30th, 2009 by chwisrock

After a long absence, I’m officially back in the Magic: the Gathering scene. I tested my mettle yesterday on the Standard Constructed tournament yesterday in Greenhills with my ValakutBurn deck. Here’s how it went:

Game 1 - BoGoblin Guideros Bushwhacker

This was my first standard tournament game after a 3 year hiatus. The excitement and anxiety was amplified by the fact that i knew my opponents deck was the bane of mine. True enough, our first game was really quick, as the Goblin Guides and Plated Geopedes proceeded to pound my slow, sorry *ass to kingdom come.

Top 4 Myths Limatik Wants Cracked

Posted on November 27th, 2009 by chwisrock

Adam and Jaime from the Discovery channel show “Mythbusters” are probably the luckiest geeks on the planet. They have the coolest jobs in the world with unlimited resources at their disposal, all in the name of science. Plus, Kari Byron is really hot. Here are the top “myths” we want the formidable Mythbusters team to try to crack:

04. Rapunzel and Her Uber-Strong Hair

rapunzel
“Ewww.. split-ends!”

The Challenge
This would be fun if they can find the Guiness world-record holder for the longest hair and sign him/her up for this. Either they confirm this myth, or someone would end up badly hurt and bald.

The Coolness
Proving hair can be used as a means of lifting people (and things) to a great height wil give rise to a new technology. Imagine people in executive suits rappeling from buildings with nothing but their hairs!

Media Laws for Protection of Journalists

Posted on November 26th, 2009 by burgerboy

In line with the recent inhumane tragedy that has occurred in Maguindanao, there were 21 journalists that were included in the massacre. Although Maguindanao is known as a place where journalists already have one foot in their graves, a lot of journalists still venture there. This province still has news that the rest of the country should know and should not be left out of media coverage. This is where our courageous journalists step in and prove their worth.

Street Art Graffiti – Limatik’s top 5 artists

Posted on November 24th, 2009 by turrboleach

Billboard advertising and Art. These 2 things have a lot of similarities. One is that both are more or less meant to visually stimulate us. The second similarity is that both these fields are highly lucrative businesses. It’s all about the money as they say. For companies aiming to profit with advertising, it’s as simple as buying out all possible spaces our eyes can look at. It’s as if we now have no choice but to absorb whatever is fed to us by these advertisements. For artists, all they have to do is follow the next fad in the art world for them to be able to sell their art. Sometimes I wonder if a lot of artists nowadays have intentions other than making money.

Limatik Defined

Posted on November 24th, 2009 by burgerboy

What exactly is Limatik? When I say Limatik, there are two things that come to mind. First is the cool website that you’re reading this article from and the other meaning (the more factual one) of the word is a parasitic mountain leech and not another term for a politician in the Philippines. These blood sucking buggers would range from 1cm-3cm in length and vary in color from the common plain black and brown to banded and striped ones.

Manny Pacquia and his fight legacy

Posted on November 24th, 2009 by s.e. oh - boy

Born in the province of of Bukidnon in the Philippines, Manny Pacquia was as humble as any baby born in the provinces of a third world country. Like any responsible boy growing up in the province, Manny grew up having to earn his way through school and the day to day necessities of food. To survive, Pacquia did everything from selling pandesal to construction work to selling balut. Early on, Manny had the affinity for boxing. Regardless of the hours he spent trying to earn his keep, he made sure that he could train everyday for a weekly boxing tournament in his province.

Less than 15 years later, Manny Pacquia is on the cover of Time Magazine and has broken the world record for winning championship belts for seven different weight classes. Who would have thought that such a humble, hardworking boy from the province would arguably be the best boxer of all time.

The Gaslamp Killer In Manila Nov. 28, 2009

Posted on November 22nd, 2009 by turrboleach

Hip hop beats, obscure 70’s trumpet music, old school fusion, sick breakbeat juggling, Siouxie and The Banshees, headache inducing drum and bass, and ABSURDITY. Typical Gaslamp Killer gig. Ive never seen him live but the videos online give you enough adrenaline to slap one of them lomo toting hipster kids sensless. Its a good thing I was watching these videos in the confines of my place.

The Gaslamp Killer In Manila

Yes, The Mother F*$#ng Gaslamp Killer is coming to Manila. Brought to us by Red-i and 32Bar productions for the first anniversary of DUBPLATE. He will be joined by Salamangkero, Red-I, Mulan, Soulflower and Don-P. I would’t normally spend php300 to watch some do DJ his thing. But I’m actually looking forward to this.

New Moon – From a guy’s point of view

Posted on November 22nd, 2009 by burgerboy

I recently saw the 2nd part of the Twilight Series which is New Moon because I was dragged along by my sister, her husband and my friend. When we were just getting the tickets, there was a long waiting line to get into the theater. Funny thing is the line was made up mostly of girls and gay people. I think that was exactly how it was meant to be since no straight guy would really want to see this movie on his own and by his own accord.

We finally got the tickets, went inside and the movie started. During the movie, you could hear the gay people shout out during parts when the lead actors took of their shirts. It was funny in a weird kind of way but there were really some things in the movie I didn’t understand. Here’s some of it:
